The Trust supports Mineral Law in Africa (MLiA) project in various different ways.

The purpose of MLiA is to harness the academic enterprise to improve insights about the applicable legal frameworks, and transfer knowledge through teaching initiatives. Researchers associated and affiliated with MLiA have been conducting research into the mineral law frameworks of individual countries for at least the past two years. Teams constituted on a country-by-country basis have been using a questionnaire, developed by the members of the MLiA project, to guide their research into fourteen identified aspects of mineral law in the various participating jurisdictions. The outcome of this process is the publication of academic texts on country-specific mineral law. The publication series has the purpose of establishing an academic resource – a “library” – on mineral law which could inform debates about revision of existing legal frameworks and development of future legal frameworks.
